Our game schedule ended Dec 18th and started with a friendly Jan 6th followed by a tournament. Normal 3x weekly practices except for the 2 weeks over Christmas.

This year the weather crushed those plans though, the games Dec 18th canceled and Jan 6th, and the tournament.

Rec? Travel? EDP? GA? ECNL?

This. Regional teams including NCSL/RL generally don't begin league play until April sometime. Their first tournaments are generally in March.

ECNL-NL/GA will generally have games in December/January/February so they don't take much time off aside from a few weeks during Christmas and New Years.

We did nothing for the soccer team, but every kid on the soccer team played futsal over the winter for the same club (practice 2x or 3x per week; at least one game per weekend, often more).

Indoor leagues through your club or not associated with it?

Through clubs. Though as PPs mentioned, a handful of kids skip either for another sport or just time off.

Wrong. Travel teams practice at least once a week and play in the futsal league. Top team still practices x4/ week.

We still had 3 days a week practice and a lot of other kids do futsal as well. A handful of kids didn’t show up regularly for practice as they had another sport (like basketball).

Two practices twice a week always outdoor (cancelled for snow at times). Sometimes there is a scrimmage against another team as a substitute for practice (full game but often one paid ref instead of the usual 3). Works for me but the weather can mess it up. I like the slower pace of winter and they still do stuff.

Our club has done the bare minimum during off season. Our coach has been mia majority of it and i am sure many of the players have not touched a ball during break. Our break has been months at this point)
We are going into this season with two tournaments in march.
Is this just a club thing? what have your kids been doing this winter?
We have had one weekday practice outside. Sometimes mixed, sometimes not but practice is so boring my kid is losing interest.
We have joined two indoor leagues just to keep them in shape and happy.
Our coach bragged about having a busy winter with the kids but that has not happened at all.
