I also dislike my Peugeot one.

I have 2 sets of Cole and Mason grinders - some of them look more traditional, but the ones we have are modern and cylinder shaped. They hold a lot and are clear, so you can see when you are running low. I use one pair for the dinner table and the other pair for finishing food with s&p in the kitchen. I also have a Peugeot that has fallen out of favor. It has been relegated to holding white peppercorns, which I use far less often than tellicherry peppercorns.

This is the one you want -- https://a.co/d/9lUXGY9

It is awesome. Store "upside down" for no mess (I do not bother with the top). Holds a huge amount of peppercorns. Grinds very easily. Seriously, do yourself a favor and get it.

We have two (one each for S&P). I normally like OXO products but it's not intuitive (you have to turn it upside down), the fill lid (that's on the bottom) takes some serious finger-strength and and I don't find the "finest" setting to grind small enough.

That said, it's a work horse, holds a lot, and is clear so you can see how much is left. I think we've had ours close to 10 years.

this is beautiful and I love the crank but it looks like it holds just a few tablespoons of peppercorn at a time.

It holds plenty. I pepper most meals and salads and fill it mostly once a month. One downside is it is tricky to fill, but if you use a folded sheet of paper as a funnel it make it simple. I really enjoy that you can very accurately adjust the coarseness of the grind.

I have this type of peppermill, but a different brand. It’s lovely and it grinds nicely, but it’s a pain to load and doesn’t hold much at all. Finally gave up on it, except for guests.

Honestly, speaking as a Parisian, just because Peugeot started out a century ago as a steel mill that developed cars and other products, it doesn't follow that everything they make is great. I think you can only ask so much of a pepper mill!

Can you just buy the $4 one at the grocery store?

Oxo has outlasted all my fancy peppers grinders.

I got the famed Peugeot Paris pepper mill a couple years ago and it is so disappointing. Hard to refill, the chamber is very small, always getting peppercorns stuck in it. Also the paint on the wood has chipped like crazy. Don't get why people love it so much.

Maybe I need one with a crank instead, like the Isen line. Does anyone have a better one to recommend?
