Chicago is super geographically isolated and stagnant flyover country to people who grew up on the coasts or booming South. And living there as an 'outsider' you realize how acutely provincial it is. It's largely Big Ten and Notre Dame graduates still hanging out with and dating their high school pals.

Yes it's College Board lists, after taking PSATs and AP exams.

+1 Especially when everyone knows they take something like 80% of their class ED. They need tons of RD apps to claim high selectivity so spam tons of kids that have practically zero chance of admission.

A lot of people dislike Chicago. I would never live there and yes, I have been several times. I feel that way about other cities too. Doesn't everyone?

This is why UChicago is under financial pressure. Once you kid takes the bait and applies, expect to hear nothing. Same with Swarthmore. Nothing until the day before the decision, "XUniversity has set a historical record for the second consecutive year..." - before the final dump letter the next day. These schools are shameless.

I know lots of people who would never live in Chicago.

But, do they troll start threads on DCUM to say so? Odd.

It is like the old days when AOL used to mail out installation CDs every month.

We have gotten 6 mailings from them so far this year. I don't get it. My dd would never get in and also has zero interest.

My kids received two mailings from them last summer. Problem is: One graduated from UVA in 2020 and the other from W&M in 2014. I guess (?) someone hit the wrong button.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if bots post here at DCUM, using language from other posts.

Relentless! The amount of email and snail mail that my kid is getting is crazy. DC is not even going to apply because no desire to live in Chicago.
