Are you talking about the fight in the bathroom where the kid died in Oklahoma?

There is nothing more painful than listening to a parent go on and on about how their child was bullied at a private school - they can't let it go that they paid all this money and their child was tormented. I have listened to a many of these situations over the years and trust me, it happens, and you hear about it even more than the kids bullied at public. Public school parents take revenge by moving to district or private, private schools take revenge by telling everybody that will listen about how evil their former school is.

Bullying can and does happen everywhere.

I went to a DC public high school and don't recall there being much bullying. I think the PP is right that it is easier to "hide" in a larger public school and find your group.

(Not saying it didn't happen or that the school was perfect- there were fights, I was not particularly popular and remember this girl randomly being a b**ch to me for no reason but I only had one large class with her so didn't really have to interact with her).

I've only been to private schools and my kids go to private. I know I live in a bubble but I didn't realize it was that bad in ps.

The CCTV for the entire school is on a huge screen that you can watch any time in the lobby. The bathrooms are all single small rooms off the hall, so it would be easy to see more than one person going in.

OMG find your brain.

No bullying is not exclusive or worse at public school.
Stop with the fear mongering you are ridiculous.

I was never physically bullied but I know it can be bad. But I don’t think panopticon levels of no privacy is necessarily the answer…

I was verbally bullied and belittled at private school. I think the school could have done more (like, anything at all) but I recognize it's difficult when the bullying is verbal.

Physical bullying, though, the school cracked down on hard: out of school suspension, in school detention, cut from sports team, janitorial jobs after school, letter of apology read aloud to victim. And everybody knew what the punishment was and why, it was not a private matter.

I went to a private boarding school and if you think private Schools, boarding and/or day, you are sadly mistaken.

+1000

Honestly how clueless would you have to be in order to think otherwise?

The bullying was much worse than in public because of the small class sizes. Your bulky was always right there with you all day long. In public school there were so many students that you could avoid interactions more easily.

There isn't CCTV everywhere. Bathrooms? Corners? Blind spots. You sure are naive.
