It stands for toddler. I didn't see a difference in sizing and there wasn’t a difference on the size charts for the stores I shop at. My kids wore both kid and toddler sizes simultaneously when they were in 4-5. We would usually choose the toddler sizes at that time just because they were cuter.

I found that the T sizes were a little shorter in the legs and arms than the corresponding “little kid” sizes. Other than that they were similar.

Use the size charts because there’s no standard. Using the ages is silly anyway - my kid has never been the age of her size.

It fits a diaper. Size 6 is thinner.

Yes, it stands for Toddler.

I have a 6 yr old and I found that we started needing to shift into kid sizes after about 5.5. She still fits into 5t or 6t stuff, but a lot of it is getting too short.

Also, confusingly, size XS in kids can often be equivalent with a size 4-5, which is smaller than a 6T. Cat & Jack at Target has this overlap and I don't really get it, though I guess it doesn't matter because they produce different items for the "T" clothes than the kid sizes (the toddler stuff tends to be younger and more cutesy, the kid sizes tend to be sportier and trendier since elementary kids care more about that and toddlers will mostly wear whatever their parents give them to wear).

The weird one is when one brand has a 6T, kids size 6, and a kids size 6X. Carters does this. I still don't really get why, I don't get the 6X sizing. I don't think it's like big and tall sizing because it only exists in size 6 -- there is no 7X or 8X. A mystery.

Realized the other day that I have NO clue what the 'T' even means-- if anything? Google hasn't even given an especially clear answer.

Does anyone have any clue...? Should we avoid the 'T' sizes as he gets towards the end of the range?

For us it went 2T - 5T then 5/6, 7, 8, 10/12, etc.

T= toddler, they are made to wear with a diaper or pull ups. Just use the measurements for each brand - the best way to buy children's clothing is to look at the size charts and measurements and find what works for your child's measurements.

I think it’s Toddler, although I may have just assumed that and never verified!

In my experience the T sizes are roomier in the hip/butt (maybe to accommodate a diaper? Or just baby chubbiness), and shorter in the leg than kid sizes. I see very little difference in T size and kid size shirts. It honest might be more about the design of the clothing than anything — T sizes being more babyish than the kid styles.

Toddler, I think.
