Look for a vita site near him: https://irs.treasury.gov/freetaxprep/

He will need to bring his social security card and photo id.

There are many free options for those with incomes below $79k. Personally of these I would use TaxAct.

+1 I was going to link to this site. OLT is also good.

OP, be sure to max out a Roth IRA for him too! He has just enough income to do it.

He received a 1099-NEC ($3,000) from one one of his summer jobs, and a plan old W-2 ($2,000) from another. Because of the 1099-NEC he has to file a tax return and pay self-employment taxes. What is the easiest, cheapest way for him to file his return? Can he do this for free anywhere, or will he have to pay to file on TurboTax?

Thanks DCUM hive mind!

Unsurprisingly, the easiest way (TurboTax) is not the cheapest (fill out the forms).

PP, the whole point is to not have to pay a tax preparer, or anybody else!

Why?

NP but did you hear yourself? Why would you pay someone when you have only earned $5000. Some of us like to know who to do stuff, and /or cant afford to outsource life.
