It's the same overall pace and subjects, but Magnet class has kids who are more interested in intensifying and going deeper.

It's not hard to transfer out of you try it and it's too much.

A lot of kids DC knows did not like Magnet Precal. Some dropped back to honors and some stuck it out. If your kid loves math it's a great course to take but if your child is not planning to study engineering, math or a hard science it's not necessary.

OTOH the Global workload other than seminar is not too terrible so if your child is a strong writer they will likely have time to do focus on magnet precal. If your child might struggle with a more open-ended writing and research focused class I would take regular honors math so as to have more time to do well in seminar. Tons of kids are missing deadlines and flailing according to a conference we just had about our own DC.

Definitely magnet precalc….the teachers are way better.

My 8th grader will be attending the PHS Global Ecology program next year. However, she got into SMCS and PHS allows anyone who got in to take Magnet Precalc. What would be the advantages of this over Honors Alg 2? As far as I can tell, you end up in AP Calc B/C in 11th either way.
