Agree that the music program is wonderful. Sports varies, though the Athletic Director is great with communication. Debate is lackluster.

He takes a lot of AP and IB classes and has done well at on the exams, which I take to mean the teaching is solid. One downside of a smaller school is having fewer classes to choose from and somewhat tougher scheduling, but we have managed to work it out.
Also, since I know this matters a lot to many, he has so far had good success with his college applications. I think he has done better than he might have if he were at a larger MCPS school, though that’s just a guess.

Can I ask where he wants to go to college?

We liked the small school vibe when we visited for the career path program info night.

Whitman has this program and many students love it so I'd assume it's good at Rockville too. Some of the classes are challenging.

You don’t work there and your kids don’t go there…how do you know they’re stuck in a rut? Can you give an example?

It is small. Your kid can stand out at a small school, can actually get on the sports teams. Those are the benefits. Downsides is fewer clubs (though still plenty) and fewer class options (ie language is only French and Spanish). They have IB programs you can enter without having to apply.

I haven’t found this at all. The principal is responsive and committed to the students. She shows up at every game and every show and every event. They know she cares.
