Any Girls GA club would join the ECNL if they could.
This is a fact. Respected clubs and talented players want to go where the best competition and highest level of achievement is.
What would happen if NWSL created NWSL Next?

MLS Next is important but ECNL Boys will never collapse because there 3x the amount of boys than girls who want to play in a "elite league" and are willing to dish out the money to feel like it. The reality is, not many boys are getting recruited out of US to play D1 anyways, so basically any boys "elite" league will probably be fine.
Truth there. Look at West Virginia (they're localish), they lost in the semi finals most of their roster is filled with international players: Australia, Japan, England, Finland, Spain, Germany - the list goes on.
And there are a lot of ECNL boys teams/clubs with interest in joining mls next

GA was just a marketing hook to con players and parents that they are elite. You could have been elite in the top local league or USYS National League.
Let me tell you a little secrete, if GA didn't exist, college coaches would travel to USYS events like the Nationals. Coaches go where the talent is.
Upon inception it wasn't a con but it was certainly a life boat to kids got caught out in the cold.
I'm not saying there wasn't an attempt to make money and GA certainly tried to grow beyond its means and scope but the league bailed out a lot of kids.
I think GA has served it's purpose and its' time has now passed.

Today's news of Ukies, Nationals and Colorado Rush leaving GA for ECNL, no matter how GA backers want to spin it, is not good news for GA.
That said, I want to say a few kind words for GA and give GA a big thanks.
When US Soccer pulled the plug on both boys and girls DA, during Covid no less, everyone was left in a lurch. ECNL had already accepted some clubs back and in light of the extenuating circumstances they let a couple more former DA clubs back into ECNL.
But that still left 1000's of players with a very uncertain future as they were just realizing their dreams of playing and being recruited for college. In short order, club directors got to work and in warp speed created a league and a showcasing environment to keep those kids dreams on track. Now, of course there was money to be made but that didn't matter to the kids.
So, while GA may certainly be slipping in status, it served an important purpose to a great number of kids who have GA and their club leaders to thank for making sure they had a competitive environment to continue their pursuit.
While I believe GA is going to fall off lets thank GA for being there when kids needed it the most.
