Utter nonsense. Most of my tutorials were outside my college. All of my lectures were. And I spent almost all my time working in the Bodleian. Students in all colleges get their degrees from the university, and have access to all the university facilities and libraries.

That’s nonsense. The quality of education is the same (or just as variable, since it depends on the tutors you get). You seem to be talking about whether it’s more of a Brideshead Revisited experience, which presumably is not why OP’s child applied.

Oxford is great. Cambridge is great. I wish we had similarly structured schools in the US. DC went to Cambridge for Economics, then LSE for a Masters and then ended up at a Top 3 PhD program in Economics in the US. Very happy with the UK Masters/Undergrad experience.

I loved my time at Oxford. I was a little older and had already had US undergrad experience, so I may have been better prepared. But, I think kid would adjust. Some of my best friends and experiences are from my time there. I did not want my kid to apply for undergrad because I like the breadth of the US system better for that (my Limey DH agrees). But, Oxford is a fantastic experience. Cambridge too. My SIL went there and loved it.

Why troll? Assuming that this is a small group of accepted kids.

Any one accepted to serious programs at Oxford
or Cambridge would be silly not to go. The pedagogical difference is real. Oxbridge manages to balance top-notch academics with access to their very best professors in a way that would be simply impossible in most top US Universities.

I also do not understand the uncertainty. He is getting a specialized degree without obligatory basketweaving courses in 3 years for a reasonable sum of money. Congratulations!

DC was recently accepted. Physics. We are totally thrilled. Despite Oxbridge's obvious strengths in Math and basic science (in addition to other areas, of course), just slightly uncertain about the US vs. UK choice. Are any senior parents facing similar decisions? Any from recent years?
