I don’t understand the issue. A toddler with a fever was crying and then fell asleep. This is not something to worry about. Kids often sleep more when sick.

Not that it matters and consult your doc but my toddler never sleeps ever and is bouncing off walls with any sickness and we have a lot - he got Covid unknown to us from daycare and he came to couch and passed out (never ever happens) just fell asleep on couch with my other kiddo being loud. Of course he woke up with fever and school emailed with a known case of Covid confirmation.

It’s not something that would immediate alarm me, but everyone has their own comfort zone. 20 months old is outside the window I’ve read of being hypersensitive to *any* fever. Low fever + known exposure means he may have Covid. He may be tired and headachy/achy and fatigued in addition to fever and while the Tylenol didn’t put him to sleep, he just finally got to a breaking point where sleep has to happen.

If you’re still concerned, call your doctor. But in the meantime, focus on fluids, sleep and controlling the fever for the whole household.


We’ve all been there - call the doctor if you’re worried and if symptoms get so bad you need to see someone go to urgent care.

Op here - he fell asleep almost instantly after the Tylenol so I’m not sure it took effect that quickly. Maybe because I was trying to figure out what was wrong and walking around with him before, right after the Tylenol I lied down with him and he was out (just some small whimpers in his sleep)

That sounds normal to me. Don't be surprised if he wakes up when the Tylenol wears off. It sounds like the Tylenol kicked in and made him comfortable enough to sleep which he needs. Our DS usually wasn't much affected even when he had a fever, but would be laid low once in a while.

Both my husband and I have caught Covid this past week, it’s now about a week into our symptoms. Our 20 months old boy seemed to be fine until this afternoon, when within the course of an hour he went from being seemingly fine and normal to crying nonstop and refusing to be put down, while screaming mama in a way that showed he was clearly in pain. Fever was only between 101-102. After I got some Tylenol in him he fell asleep on me at 5 pm in the afternoon - he NEVER sleeps this early. Normal bedtime is 7-8 and he had his normal nap today. He’s had RSV, other respiratory illnesses, and even with higher fevers he never fell asleep at a random time like this. Normally the discomfort makes it harder for him to be put to sleep.

Should I be concerned about how suddenly he fell asleep? Could it be caused by anything else other than the fever? I’m pretty sure fever is from Covid that he caught from us. He isn’t coughing much or showing other symptoms yet. I'm freaking out a bit because this never happened before and I don't know if it's safe for me to leave his side and let him sleep. Called the pediatrician but still on hold after 1 hours.
