She is, she’s wanted that to be her room since we moved in. She spends majority of her time down there if she’s not in her room.

If the teen wants to move to the basement I would do that. I would not force a move though. Agree with PPs about cameras at all exits .

+1. Your other option is for you to move down to the basement if you want your own space after the baby turns 2 or 3. Use a monitor and you will still hear the then toddler if they cry for you at night.

I'd say offer the teen the basement. Get a home security system where you get an alarm when the basement door is opened. I wouldn't lock it so she can't open just in case of an emergency. I'd also put a motion light and/or camera off the basement door outside so there are multiple ways for you to be notified if the teen were to sneak out.

Give your teen the basement, put an extra lock on the door.

Currently living in a two bedroom home, and can’t afford to move right now so that’s not an option. I have an almost 16 year old and a baby on the way. Obviously the baby will be in the room with me for the first year, but I’m concerned on what to do afterwards. I have a basement with a full bathroom that could be used as another bedroom. My teen wouldn’t mind moving down there. My only concern in her being in the basement by the back door. Plus it’s extra cold down there in the winter. Then I thought about having the kids share a room since the teen will be off to college in a few years. What would you do in this situation?
