Yes, niece attends and told us at Christmas that half her floor transferred out. Concerning, to say the least.

Undergrad population is a tick under 11K, but this is a bit deceiving from a "feel" standpoint. Only freshmen and sophomores are guaranteed housing on campus, so it feels significantly smaller. Class sizes quickly shrink as they transition from the core curriculum to their major courses (depending on the major/college they're in).

Class of '26 had a 57% acceptance rate and 3.8 UW gpa average. It's definitely getting tougher.

Anecdotally, I know a lot of kids that apply to UVM in addition to private schools. Think these are higher stat students that look at UVM as a safety, but they are genuinely excited about the prospect of attending. I wonder how different it feels to be a student there compared to at a smaller New England private.

I’d say it’s a safety for kids with high GPA and rigor. My kid got admitted OOS with top merit this year with a 4.0 uw, 10 APs, no test scores.

Tons of kids from our school apply, and Naviance makes clear it’s a safety for kids above 4.0 weighted.

Also, I recommend checking out the stats of the kids in the College Confidential forums for UVM. People will list whether they're in state or OOS.

It's a safety for some, with a 65% acceptance rate--if your student is over the 75th percentile markers for GPA and SAT/ACT.

It was a safety for my son (OOS), but the nice thing is he got merit. It's really in the running for him, and I'm glad he applied there.

Years ago I didn't think of it as a selective school, but top students I know are applying and it doesn't seem like a safety at all now.
