We have 5 doors on the first floor. We did not rekey when we bought, but did when spouse lost keys (I think it was at 22ish years). It was $1500, $300 per lock. FWIW, we've been in our home 25 years

You can just replace the knobs and deadbolt giving you a new key. Much cheaper than actually rekeying the old one.

It is easy enough to do yourself. I did it in our house and it took no more than an hour for three exterior doors. And I never did it before. So you don't have to pay a locksmith.

Yes, definitely and same. Was able to have one key for all doors. $300 maybe?

Yep, first thing we do when we take possession. You don't need to hire a locksmith, it is very DIY. Just go to Home Depot/lowes and tell them what you are looking for and that you want them to be all keyed together. It takes 10-15 minutes per door to swap out the hardware. Just watch a couple of videos on Youtube.

We priced a locksmith and they wanted $125+ per door to rekey. Way cheaper to buy new locks.

I had this done. It was in the $200-300 range but it's been over 5 years so I'm sure it would be higher now. The more doors/locks you have, the higher the price. It was worth it though, for safety and to get all locks to use the same key!

You need to rekey the locks. Before we listed we had to do a lot to spruce up our home and we had at least half a dozen people who had access to the keys. Not to mention my parents and MIL, LOL.

Of course you should change the locks. You just need a locksmith to rekey them. It cost us $100 per door.

Do most people have all their locks changed when they move into a new house?

How much does something like that typically cost?
