These acceptance rates seem reachable for most disciplined students. I would think As and Bs would do it. OP do you think your kid can get into these in state colleges?

We would prefer he stay in-state, and it will be a no-brainer if he gets in at one of the top state schools. He would prefer a big school out of state to a smaller regional one. It would be a very difficult choice in terms of money: we can "afford" it but we are not wealthy to the point it doesn't matter.

Can you afford to go out of state? What does your child want?

The money is the only downside to going to another state's flagship over your state's non-flagship.

Right, the best public ones are reaches. Do we try for a flagship out of state instead, knowing likelihood of getting in at some is much higher? Or do we just go for very low cost at a regional FL one, knowing it will be ranked much lower?

I meant public ones, sorry. UF, FSU and UCF, which is increasingly popular because FSU and UF are so hard to get into.

This is about right - but UMiami is significantly more expensive than UF and Florida State even with paying full OOS. I would give UCF consideration as well - particularly for engineering. A lot of people have started to choose UCF over Florida State for engineering and comp sci in particular.

Umiami is private.

Feels like Florida has more large schools that I guess aren’t UF or Florida State but more like 2nd tier flagships vs a regional university.
