We have 8000sf and are a family of 4 with a nanny. Use all the space

Some people host a lot and need a party house.

Lonely people who think that "more" will make them feel more fulfilled and happy.

No one “needs” a house this big, but I don’t begrudge those who choose to own one.

I mean, if you have four children and want them to have their own bedrooms + a hangout space or two, have grandparents living with you want want them to have a small private living and kitchenette area, and you work from home (office x 2), then yes, I could 7000 sf being serviceable (or 6000). For my family of three? 3000 is more than enough.

This is what happens. My sister ended up with a 5,000 square foot home for their 3 person family. They wanted a new build in a certain location but they just don't make the 3,000 square foot home that she wanted.

We have 8,000 sqft for our family of 4. We have 2 guest rooms, 2 family rooms (one for kids, one for adults), 2 home offices, and a workout room. There are indeed some rooms of the house that are not entered every day.

We needed space for my aging parents. Wouldn’t necessarily have required 7000 sq ft but it was super hard to find a first floor bed/bath or elevator in the house (and zero/minimal entry steps). So we ended up with way more space than we needed/wanted.

Some people are into big houses. Some people are into cars. Some people are into clothes, handbags, or other status symbols. Some people are into food. Some people are into vacations. Why judge?

For 7,000 sq feet, this house layout feels small, especially the area around the kitchen.

It isn't hard to fill that amount of space with proper storage, 2 offices (everyone works from home now!) a guest suite, an au pair suite, gym, theater, etc.

no idea. I have one left in our 2800 sq ft house. We use 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, the kitchen and the family room.

The basement, the living room, the dining room, the other 2 bedrooms don't get used at all. I ask the cleaning company to lightly dust once a month.
