Since neither makes their own sofas, and they rebrand other manufacturer’s sofas, what you get at those stores is hit or miss. They can be great and last you 15 years…. or they can fall apart within three years.

Our Room & Board Dean sofa is holding up well after a year, but it's not our daily use sofa.

We have two sofas from BoConcept that get heavy use and they've held up really well, at least a couple years in. Their delivery times are reasonable and accurate.

Neither one makes sofas. So it depends on where your particular sofa is made.

Generally you can ask about:

- Made in USA (this is because shipping fully assembled hardwood frames internationally is cost prohibitive)
- Hardwood frame
- Cushion fill you like - wrapped foam will be more durable, feathers soft but saggy, skip polyfill. They will all need replacing eventually.
- A durable upholstery fabric. This is personal preference and most of the stock fabrics at both stores are probably perfectly serviceable. Check cleaning requirements. There are several types of “performance” fabric so if you want to get more into the details you can.

Neither. Room & Board sofas sag like crazy after a year (we have the Metro, we HATE it), and Pottery Barn is known for taking forever to deliver.

Look in a real furniture store, not a brand.

Who makes better quality sofas. Room and board or pottery barn?
