I would imagine if you are a practicing Catholic you would get preference. I’m pretty sure Quaker schools do this.

Better consideration/acceptance if you’re from a CS AND if your parents work at the CS- I’m definitky having my DC apply.

Keep in mind that there are 1,205 Catholic high schools in the U.S. with a total of 569,395 students; and there are only 221 Catholic colleges with 720,000 students total. So technically there is a spot at a Catholic college for every Catholic high school grad who wishes to attend one, but it might not be the one you hoped for.

Some Catholic Colleges I have toured and spoken to have a check box or a question about Catholic HS. A few have said they will offer more scholarship money to Catholic School graduates. Some have asked if the parent is faculty at a Catholic School.

They wouldn't ask if they didn't care.

If you look at the MCPS admits vs. applications, only 6% of those who applied were accepted, vs. 12% over acceptance rate for the university. I don't have specific info on Catholic high schools, but based on the matriculations I have seen, the acceptance rates are much better than they are in MCPS. For example, 8 enrolled out of VISI (roughly 125 seniors) and 4 enrolled out of SR (95 seniors) last year. These are actual matriculations, so it is very likely acceptances were higher than that. I realize legacy status comes into play here, but there are also legacies are not limited to Catholic schools. I am sure there are plenty of legacies in MCPS as well.

I also looked at BC and Villanova, and there wasn't as stark a difference in acceptance rates for MCPS vs. overall with these schools.



I assume there's a better yield among acceptances of kid from Catholic high schools vs all others.

I'd say certainly yes for Gonzaga to BC (or any other jesuit college). I haven't look closely at other scenarios.
