My kid took SOLs for algebra, geometry, & world geo in MS. The only HS classes he took in MS without SOLs were 2 years of a language.

That’s my understanding. FCPS gives a GPA bump for honors classes, but you need a 93 to make an A. APS only gives the bump for AP/IB/DE, but a 90 is an A. So imagine the inconsistencies across the state or country.

From what I’ve heard, colleges look at what classes you took, and what grade you earned in them more than looking at the GPA your high school calculated.

I have a young HS student, so all my college application experience is 30 years out of date. But don’t most colleges recalculate GPA anyway to do it consistently?

You can’t (or shouldn’t, rather) remove any core classes for which they have to have an SOL on recorded. We removed a B in language but didn’t remove an advanced math grade.

Good to know - There was confusion as to whether or not MS grades were actually part of the GPA calculation.

You are correct removing unweighted As can lead to a boost in GPA.

The counselors indicated that rising seniors can have their MS classes removed from their transcripts, but that they won't calculate potential GPAs. Have anyone had them removed and how did that impact the GPA if the grades were As anyway? My thought is that removing those As that aren't weighted can increase the GPA b/c the AP grades aren't watered down. Is that accurate?

PS - This seems so silly, but I know it's how it is these days.
