I found out I had osteopenia at 42 and then dx with osteoporosis at menopause at 48. I take Fosamax once weekly.

As a result of finding out early, my siblings got DEXA scans; our parents had osteoporosis and now my older brothers (59, 60) and my sister (50) have osteopenia.

Clearly a familial link here. I walk with a weighted vest and do hard surface walking.

What are the weighted vest and hard surface walking supposed to accomplish?

They're not wrong. Notice they said PER DECADE, not PER YEAR.

Were you making sure to stand as straight as possible, or perhaps the person taking your measurement got it wrong? I bet it's an error. Measure yourself at home, tell us what you come back with.

I shrank in my 30s because of collapsed discs in my back

Not normal in your 40s

Get tested for osteoporosis. Medicine can help and can prevent fractures and hips breaking.

It could also be an error in measurement. My teen son was measured by 2 different doctors in the same week (appointments for an illness). He measured 5'4.75" at one, 5'5.25" at the other. No way his actual height changed that much in a week.

I have osteopenia and am doing everything I can not to get to that point.

Good to know, I will bring this up with my doctor.

I started shrinking in my 20s but didn't realize why until I was diagnosed with mild scoliosis in my 40s. When I was in my teens I was 5'5" but now I vary between 5'3" and 5'4" (I have found that yoga and pilates increase my height by helping my hips and backs to be more in alignment).

I’ve been 5’5” my whole adult life. Just after turning 46 I was at the doctor and they measured me at 5’ 4.75”. I assumed it was a one off thing but nope, I’ve been to multiple doctors since then and always measure below 5’5” now. I had no idea it would happen this early and drastically! Anyone else?
