It's like gender reveal parties. Not necessarily the same demographic, but in that there is a subset of the population who have decided "everyone" does this or that it's normal, but also the majority of the population does NOT do this.
I didn't get a push present (nor did I expect one) and none of the women in my friend circle did either (or if they did, they were quiet about it). I do have some cousins, colleagues, and former classmates who got them.
I think the idea of a "push present" is gross but I also think women tend not to get enough appreciation or credit for the work of having babies in this day and age, so I think it's probably a direct response to the way we treat pregnancy/childbirth as no big deal and easy, even though they are neither.

you don't have to pay it any mind. if people want to get their spouse a gift for having a baby that's lovely. anyone who brags about it and refers to it as a 'push present' is a live laugh loser.
