Usually in our area, you only have 24-48 hrs visibility on actual stuff on the ground and timing of snowfall/icing. School districts announce closures and delays at most, the day before. This is because we live in a warm zone where it's not feasible for local governments to invest too much taxpayer money on snow removal, and since we don't have reliably deep-freeze winters, we're often at the slick/icy border of winter events, which is very finicky and difficult to predict. One degree variation in ground temp can make the difference between black ice or wet roads for the morning commute, for example.

I need an outpatient procedure and just scheduled for 2/19 so DH didn’t have to take off work. However, now I see 40% chance of snow that day and the day prior. Based on past snowy years, I wonder if things are likely to be bad enough to justify rescheduling.
