Much of what parents of young kids call "bullying" is little ones trying to figure out how to interact with one another. It can be corrected quite easily with adult guidance. It is a developmental phase.

Actual bullying (mean behavior and isolating others for the fun of it, and taking joy in other's suffering) starts in later elementary school and can go into the teen years. It is very different from preschoolers and 1st graders trying to figure out how to be kind and navigate social situations.

Girls start bullying in 4th at the start of puberty. The bullying is more mental/social. It will go through high school.

Boys are a couple of years behind. The bullying is more physical, and tends to last a shorter duration (early high school) with a few exceptions.

I think 7-8th grade. Not sure if the schools have a bullying policy in place.

K and 1st. We went throught this with a classmate of my DD.

It starts at home with the parents. The "angry parents" who show their kids how to use their voice and body to push people around. And the "kind parents" who don't teach their kids how to push back.

+1 yeah I think 2nd/3rd grade is when we notice things went from oh they’re just kids who haven’t been socialized well to oh look this is who the mean kids are.

+ 2. While there was some mean girl behavior in preschool, 2nd grade is when I heard moms start being horrified by things that were coming out of their daughters' mouths. I'm grateful to the ones who were horrified and put a stop to it.

3rd -4th grade

My child was bullied in 3rd grade. It changed him.

I feel like the boys started being mean to the girls in third. The girls become more sophisticated about it in 6th
