Yes - just the ends. She's not looking for bright pink hair! LOL Just for fun. She really wants color so I can't convince her of a blue/purple - she wants a pink shade. She has long hair yes and she's looking for more than one strand.
I don't know anything about this stuff - I thought maybe the bleaching would ultimately still damage her hair? I know that a lot of salons won't dye teen hair up till a certain age. Thanks everyone!!
The bleaching will damage the hair that's bleached. If it's just the ends, cut them off. If it's throughout her hair or from her roots, it's going to have to grow out.

Potentially, if you bleach hair and stop after just a very brief amount of time so that you only bleach 1-2 levels - just enough so that hair maybe turns from a black shade to brown would be helpful for color to show. That would allow some color in, depending on the box brand's effectiveness and ultimately the lightened color of hair. Additionally, using a vegan dye or product that is healthy would also cause less damage.
If you go to a reputable salon that knows what it's doing and using high quality products, a consideration?

Given your parameters, OP, there is not good option as bleach is the only way.
What if you took just one thick stripe of hair and bleach that. Then dye it. Then just keep dying that one streak.
Or bleach the ends and do blue, and keep doing the blue regularly.

We've tried a lot of different sprays and stuff - nothing really works. If anyone has any suggestions, would be grateful. She doesn't want bleach nor I. She doesn't want clip ins or extensions. Just to see her hair a different color than blackAlthough in the summer, with sun her hair definitely lightens. She'll get a tint when we spray but nothing like color.
What's wrong with bleach if she just wants the ends a fun color? You can just chop it off when she's done with it. No harm done.

Clip ins are probably the best option.
Dark hair will only take on a slight tint, which is something you could try for. Manic panic blue or purple, leave on for as long as possible and rinse out. It wont be vibrant by any means, but she should still see a colored tint in the sun.

As someone with dark hair, at most you can aim for maroon. If she wants lighter or more vibrant colors, get it down professionally. It will have to be bleached first.

This. If you're trying to go lighter or anything besides maybe jet black on your DD's hair, it will need to be bleached first. Which is anything but "less harsh".

DD has been sad we've not found any home dyes to work on her dark brown hair (Asian and Caucasian).
Thinking about salons - she wanted to get ends done. I heard there's a brand that may work at home but super messy so trying to explore other options like a less harsh brand at salon.
I saw Aveda dyes could be a good option. Any experiences for your DD using that or salons that may be a good fit? Seeking Arlington area or Alexandria ideally.
