NP. I'm not local, but I would check this group out also (I looked at their website). I applied and got my dad approved for VA benefits (he has a service connected disability) but I did need help from my county's veteran affairs officer (that's who does it where I am). I'm pretty good at reading and filling out forms but I needed the help-the officer knew the ins and outs. Are you uncle's POA?

Does he live near a Veterans Administration hospital? He might be able to get medical check ups and prescriptions there. I believe they’ve tightened up requirements lately, but he could at least apply and see if he is eligible.

My dad served for three years or so in the 50s and he was able to get yearly physicals, all his prescriptions, and his hearing aids through the VA hospital near him. He still had to see his regular doctor for everything else and that was covered by Medicare.

Is your uncle eligible for Medicaid? That might be helpful.

He would not qualify for tri-care if he was only in 3 years. TriCare is for current and retired (meaning retired from the military, 20+ years) and their dependent family members.

If he served during war, then yes. Otherwise no.

Sorry about the mismatch in decades between title and first post. It was late 60s, I think.

Are there any elder benefits for someone who was in the navy for three years in the last 1960s?

My uncle is single and childless and slipping into dementia. I'm trying to figure out what benefits he qualifies for. He does have some assets right now but I'd like to figure out if there is anything that could be paid for by benefits to try to make those assets stretch. he did not serve in combat. He was in the US.
