Be sure to also try very low doses. Some doctors insist on starting at a “therepeutic” dose when a lower dose may provide most of the benefits with fewer side effects. You can then ramp up slowly as needed.

Most switch to a ritalin based drug if adderrall doesn't work. usually focalin XR.

A good child psychiatrist experienced in trials and a mood stabilizer. We went through a half dozen different trials before finding an adequate mix.

Appetite suppression kicks in when you are at an effective dose. Some say it is a sign of finding the right dose. But yes, my DC did not have on adderrall at lower doses.

OP here... Will also add that...in addition to the unpleasant side effects of increased aggression, agitation, etc. (while taking adderall), we also noticed that there was no appetite supression. We found that to be interesting given all the talk about weight loss, appetite suppression, etc.

Am I just reading into that (lack) of side effect? Or have others also not experienced a lack of appetite while on Adderall?

Thanks so much.

I will say we went through so many doses and types and switches and I thought it would never click, and when it did it was such an obvious fit and it was like a whole new child and so it is very worth the trial and error. Good luck!

Thanks for your response. What was the trial and error/follow up appts with the doctor like? Did they just suggest a new med? We have a follow up but not sure what to expect... Seems like there are so many different options out there and not sure how to best advocate for DC when we ourselves know very little about the medications out there.

Appreciate the advice, thank you.

It's really individual. Are you working with a psychiatrist?

Thanks for your response. Yes, working with a psych...just trying to get a feel for what else is out there/what others have done... This trial and error method is really hard...
