No. That's so 1990. Every MoCo stop has at least one body worn camera and one in car video going. The drivers have to be advised of their rights and that they may say no.

10% of all recovered guns were from traffic stops last year. And those aren't from someone lawfully transporting for lawful use. Those are guns that were likely used or going to be used to hurt community members -- most likely residents of color.

Current policy is appropriately balanced to preserve both drivers' rights and community safety.

This is good. If an officer has probable cause then this doesn't apply. The police should only search if there is evidence of a crime, not because they want to go fishing.

There were two high profile, car searches that resulted in a large drug stash, and another one that had guns. this six or eight months ago.

Per the press release: On Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 1 p.m., Montgomery County Councilmember Will Jawando will hold a virtual press conference to mark the introduction of his new Bill 2-24, the Freedom to Leave Act, which will be introduced during the Council’s afternoon session. Councilmember Jawando and supporters of the bill will share remarks and take questions from the press. The Freedom to Leave Act will: (1) prioritize Fourth Amendment rights and reduce disparities in traffic enforcement by prohibiting consent searches of a motor vehicle or person by a police officer; and (2) improve data analysis for traffic stops by requiring the collection of additional data and annual reporting of traffic stop data. This new bill replaces the STEP Act.
