I'm your height, weighing 150lb and 17% body fat. People are commenting that I'm too thin. I wear a 4/26, s/m tops. You're fine where you're at.

BMI was never meant to be an indicator for individual weight health. It's a way to measure populations, not individuals. OP, if your body is happy at 155, and you are athletic and in good health, then 155 is the right number for you!

I'm 5'8". Currently 160, but feel best around 145-150. So I'm working on losing a few pounds ... but that's me. My sister, exact same height, looks and feels best a good 10 lbs heavier than me. She has broader shoulders, bigger chest, wider hips ... she can run marathons and compete in triathlons at 165 lbs, but looks gaunt can't perform as well athletically below 155. We just have different builds.

I know focusing on numbers is silly because everyone's body composition is different, but i get really stressed out when I look at a BMI chart. I wear a size 6-8 (29 jeans). Is there anything I can do to move the needle or should i just accept that this where i am?

You don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m 5’8, and I look and feel best around 145-150. When I was 120 pounds I looked skeletal, stopped menstruating, and had jacked bloodwork for being anorexic. At OP’s height, that weight and dress size is just fine. People have different skeletal structures, so unless OP has light bones, she’s doing great. You better keep tabs on your bone strength as you grow older because at your height/weight you either have an eating disorder or your bones are glass.

This is me too. Op you are perfect, don’t stress

120 is nuts and underweight for 5’9”. Frankly, 102 is underweight for 5’5”.

Someone who is 5’9 and weighs 120, as you suggest, would have a BMI of 17.7. Anything under 18 is underweight and unhealthy…which is where you land with a BMI even lower at 17.5.

Maybe think about dealing with your body dysmorphia and possible eating disorder. There are some good threads here with recommendations for eating disorder programs. Good luck to you.

I'm almost 5'9", and when I got down to 124 (not intentionally), my doctor was concerned that I was underweight.

I'm 5'9" and was a size 8 / 150lbs at my lowest adult weight pre kids. When I look at pictures from that time, my face looks skeletal. I look better at 165 or so, which is still within "normal BMI" although it's worth noting BMI has a lot of flaws and isn't great for tall women (among others).

You sound healthy at your current weight. Congrats on being muscular, that's something I'm still working on.

5’9” and you want to be under 155? Why?

I am 5'9" and have dropped 40 lbs over the last year, down to 147. I am a size 8/29 so you are the same size with 15 extra lbs. I wouldn't stress. Have you done an InBody scan? That would help get a better handle on the muscle vs fat.

Maybe it's because I was larger to begin with, but I felt pretty good at 162. In fact that was my original goal weight, but then kept going.

I’m 5’9” and weigh 130-135 pounds. My doctor wants me to gain 5-10 pounds and focus on muscle. Sounds like you are super strong and healthy. I’m skinny fat with osteopenia.
