When I was younger I was home on front steps and a teen kid flew by my house at 60 mph not realized very sharp left ahead as street ending do to train tracks.

He went head on into the telephone phone at 60 mph and he shattered pole and it was hanging in air. Car was stick on mud and dirt b before tracks.

Well police called tow truck driver they pulled it out and kid drove home.

Looked like a 1971 Buick Electra 4 door. No air bags or antilock breaks just a few tons of steel

I had a six year old Ford Escape so my teen got that and I bought a three year old used, but nicer, SUV.

Something safe. A BMW or MB or Volvo. Definitely not something cheap. Double your budget OP.

We got a few years old Nissan Rogue. It had good safety features and was reasonably priced for the miles and age. We wanted a smaller SUV with leather seats and safety cameras.

We bought a Subaru crosstrek sport. Needed the hatchback for large musical instrument transportation.
Kid drives the Subaru I stead of my 12 year old minivan because it is safer/has many more safety features.

Well aware he will not take it to college in two years, and I’ll drive it then. Littler one is 4 years from driving, so we might get another new car by then. Whatever is the most up to date safest car we own will be the one I put the new driver in.

What does "exciting" mean to you? What does it mean to your kids? Interesting that you don't tell us what they'd like. This is so obviously reliving the glory days for you.

The bolded is ridiculous. If you need a third car, buy a third car you like, because they're probably not taking it with them to college. It will sit in your driveway. You buy it, and the easiest thing to do is probably share all three cars. That way people take whichever one is in the driveway at the time they need it. It makes them practice with different cars, and teaches them to keep the car clean for the next person.

Actually, I gave my son the newer, nicer, safer car because I was young once and remembered how much it meant back then for me to have it.

What did you get yours? I am finding it really hard to narrow it down. I'd like something safe, but also a little bit exciting to get. Under 30k and used (2020 on) is fine.
