I have a freshman but yes I noticed that ring day is a big thing in private school for juniors. And yes the rings can be expensive! I am pleased to hear other people are going for less expensive options, because I too think this is a waste of money!

our private does but they're ridiculously expensive (like $1200 and up) because everyone gets gold and gold is super expensive these days. we've passed and my kid thankfully doesn't really care. I think she's the only one of her friend group that didn't get one.

I went to a Midwestern public HS and we all got them. They were stupidly expensive and ugly (like Super Bowl rings) but anyone who was a varsity athlete, theater, orchestra or band kid got them sophomore year. We spent weeks obsessing over the special panels on the sides of the rings. It was a big thing and I wore it daily for 3 years. I’ve spent way more per wear on fine jewelry.

Once I got to my fancy college and saw the very understated signet-style class rings my private school classmates wore, I immediately hid my HS ring and never wore it again.

Lame AF. Get a nice piece of jewelry that can be worn beyond high school.

I can’t imagine these still being a thing, but I’m from NY graduated in ‘99 and I didn’t want one though my parents offered. When I was a sophomore dating a senior he “gave” me his ring to wear on a necklace, and I gave it back when we broke up.

I’d sooner encourage a nice piece of forever jewelry if you wanted them to have something to commemorate the time.

None got rings or expressed any interest in getting one.

I graduate high school in ‘93 and did not get a ring. I only knew a couple people who did.

I always thought they were tacky and a waste of money even back in the day. I wouldn’t buy one unless your child specifically asks for one.

I've never seen the point. Is it a Southern thing?

No one does this in the DMV area high schools anymore. Jostens and others would like you to think otherwise, tho.

I was thinking about getting DD a class ring, but I don't see other kids wearing them and none of her other friends are talking about getting one. There are new styles and I like the customization options, but they seem expensive. They were pricey even when I was in school and yet most people got one. Are your kids or the kids you know getting one?
