I got the impression she wanted to be recommended products that will work for her-not necessarily buying those products from that person. Because she specifically mentioned not wanting to be recommended all products from a single brand as they may not work best for her. Personally, if someone sells-they have an incentive to sell you the products they have regardless if they are best for you. So personally, I think it’s best to have an expert give you their unbiased opinion.

Have you ever had a MUA do your makeup? Most of them have a kit that is primarily one brand of makeup.

That’s what they do for like weddings/special events. She is not asking for that-she is asking for a consultation to find products that will work for her. Obviously they will try these products on her but it’s not the same thing as a person coming to specifically do makeup for a specific event.

But yeah obviously if you hire someone from MAC for example that’s all they will have. But independent makeup artists are different. Doing a simple google search shows lots and lots in the area that specifically say they have many brands to see what works best for clients.

I second Blue Mercury

I had an excellent consultation with Maggie at Blue Mercury Bethesda. She made solid recommendation and gave me a lesson in applying it. 5 stars!

I’m in a similar position, OP and I feel like the Sephora rec is given frequently, but would prefer a rec for a specific person. A local makeup artist or something like that who works with multiple brands and can make recommendations based on my personal style. Definitely NOT looking for MLM Boss Babes.

Maybe I’m using the same terminology. I want the name of a specific person who is known to be good, as I understand that some people at Sephora are not makeup artists but are just sales people. Does that help?

Just get an appointment at Sephora at Tysons.

I need a whole new set of makeup and some guidance in how to apply it correctly as I’m at the point that I need to use foundation.

I don’t want to spend more than $200 all in.

Where should I go and how do I go about getting a consultation? Prefer Tysons / Bethesda areas but can go into DC if there’s someone good to go there. I’d appreciate specific consultant recommendations as opposed to Sephora or Nordstrom generally.

I’m concerned about going to a department store and needing to choose a brand without knowing that is necessarily best for me.

For context, 50 years old, light hair, wrinkles but otherwise nice skin, no blemishes etc. I already have a skincare routine down.
