I like reading threads like this. For obese people, the thin brigade says it’s acceptable to eat 1000 calories, that’s your punishment for having gotten fat. For someone who is apparently thin, to eat 1000 calories is an eating disorder for which she should seek medical assistance.

No. Patients in vegatative states getting tube fed more calories than this.

Your body WILL eat your muscle at this calorie level, no matter what the foods are. It isn’t enough calories for normal metabolic function.

How are people not constipated when they eat below 1200 calories?

I'm pretty slim but 1k just feels awful.

Assuming you are doing this for a set period of time to lose weight, and not indefinitely, yes, ok. You’re not going to die, for God’s sake. Could you take in more calories and get the same result? Maybe. Everyone’s metabolism is different. Try it for a few days or weeks and see how you feel. Adjust upward if needed.

These people who scream “ED!” at people like you on here need to get a grip. Maybe they have glorious metabolisms where they can eat 2000 cals a day and look perfectly svelte. But I suspect they’re resigned to their own dumpiness, and they should examine why it bothers them so much when other people want something different for themselves.

Did you just start this, OP, or have you been doing it for a while? Just wondering if this is brought on by an urgent desire to lose X pounds in Y days/weeks?
My understanding is bare minimum of 1200-1300 calories a day, and that's if the person is being sedentary. What is your "light exercise?"

You have to up your calories.

Why would you do this? Are you obese? Are you thin but trying to keep your weight? Are you going to the grammy's and need to fit in a dress?

How long do you intend to do this?

I don’t want to kick my body into starvation mode but if I’m eating 100 percent nutrient dense foods:
lean fish, chicken
leafy greens
variety of veggies
sparingly using olive oil
fresh fruit
eggs
greek yogurt

… Is it okay to stay around 1000 calories a day? Mid 40’s and do light workouts daily
