Speaking as someone who's been going there since the 80s, no.

Why the knee-jerk denial? I don't think DC is a war zone like Republicans insist, but there is nothing wrong with admitting a train station can be sketchy at times? I have unfortunately been at Union Station at 4am due to a delayed train and I was uncomfortable!

Can someone provide more info about the mugging? I just started back in the office in NoMa today and haven't heard about it.

Union Station has always been sketchy, like since the 80s.

Our office is moving there soon, and lots of employees are nervous about safety issues. Most of us take public transportation and leadership, who drives and has secured parking, is dismissive of our safety concerns.

Why the hell should we have to choose between those two things!

Guess what, being unable to terminate a life-threatening pregnancy also threatens your safety.

Same. Have lived and/or worked in the area since the early 1990s, and have not felt this unsafe until recently. I hate it.

I think you misspelled vibrant.

Also work there and heard about the mugging and car jacking. What was the fatal police interaction? Why can’t they beef up police presence during key commenting time? So many feds down there now.

HS is so important to prepare a kid for college, and it's such a major period in a kid's life. It's truly OK to move for better HS options if you can afford it. If you can live in a close-in suburb, the commute into DC is no longer the bear it was before the pandemic and the spread of WFH. Might be worth commuting for the HS years, if the kid is in a better HS than you have where you are now.

My office building is in NOMA. Apparently in the last week, there has been a fatal carjacking and a fatal altercation with police near the office, plus a co-worker was mugged at the NOMA metro station. Welcome back into the office!
