Our private limits APs- you need prerequisites to get into them and none freshmen year.
Honors level courses are offered all years and are tough.

My DD will be taking 5 AP senior year. Having said that she had a friend who took no math, regular English animation and PE and she go into UC San Diego.

5 senior year, 4 junior year, 1 sophomore year. No electives senior year, so he's able to focus on the AP classes.
If your kid is aiming for selective schools, he should have a rigorous senior year.

top 40 is not a goal. How about 3 APs? He will be done with AP Spanish this year.

He is doing AP Spanish now already. He said he'd be willing to add AP gov, so he'd have three. He had four APs this year. No aspiration of top anything for school, he is a good student but not that perfect anyway so has zero chance.

It would be very unwise to limit APs as you outline. Right now, college admissions is so competitive that it is more like a lottery. DS needs to show himself capable of the most rigorous work just to have a reasonable chance at a top 40 school.

How many did your kids take senior year? My ds is insisting he doesn't want to do APs aside from Statistics and English. Everything will look like a step down from Junior year as the rest would be Honors. Wdyt for admissions?
