OP here. The school reported to OSSE and CPS. The school conducted interviews and sent information to them. OSSE and CPS then determined there was "no evidence" and ended the investigation - without ever doing direct interviews.
Then, the day the teacher was supposed to return, OSSE decided to reopen the investigation, and FINALLY started interviews directly with the subjects.
I don't trust whatever information the school gave OSSE.

Preschool Director here- I can tell you (based off your info) the school lied about reporting to CPS...CPS would never end an investigation like that without speaking with the teacher involved (and potentially the student) first. I suggest you look elsewhere, it doesn't sound like they're handling it properly. Or, whoever you're getting your info from is wrong/doesn't know what they're talking about.

Apparently the school had the teacher on paid leave while they conducted an investigation. They said they found "no evidence." Then the teacher was supposed to return that day, but instead the investigation was reopened and the teacher is on leave again.

I feel like the school was trying to sweep things under the rug and am glad to hear the investigation is open again.

Right now I'm struggling with trusting the organization, whatever the result is.

I also learned some things - like make reports immediately, and find out what you should do/who to talk to about concerns before there ever is an issue. Because the school wanted to throw out whole conversations that occurred between the teacher and parents, because "no administrator was there."

Anyway, just wanted to share. Hoping for transparency from the school but also struggling now with trusting them in general. If I had unlimited funds I'd move my kid, but that's not realistic, and I'd like to believe the issue (if it happened) is isolated to that one other classroom.

It does not take "unlimited funds" to find a better place for your kid. Also what you'd "like to believe" is obviously not the reality at this place. A staff member hit a kid or kids, admin did not do the right thing at all re investigation and not reporting to CPS, what would have to happen for you to take your kid out of there?

That school needs to be closed down. Even if there was reason to believe it was a false report, the school violated mandatory reporting. No one who knew about the allegation should be allowed to work with children again.

100%. That is outrageous.

How are they “sweeping things under the rug?”

They investigated over several days and determined it didn’t happen. It sounds like when she was supposed to return, more evidence surfaced.

Where are you getting your information from, ie the school wanting “to throw out the conversation between the parent and the teacher?” How do you know that?

I spoke with parents who shared with me what was in a Zoom meeting for those class parents with the administrators. Not all parents know the contents of the conversations that occurred and it seems they don't want parents to know what the teacher said (they said, "Yes, I hit Larla, but not as hard as I hit Larla."). (True story apart from the name changes!!!!)

Well the administration said on the Zoom call that the conversation was a misunderstanding (without explicitly saying what the conversation included) because no administrator was there, only a teacher and parent.

And the entire initial investigation was conducted BY THE SCHOOL. The day the teacher was supposed to return, we learned that an outside group had decided to reopen the investigation, so this time there will be direct reports (not filtered through the school HR).

One of the children told their parents. The parents confronted the teacher. The teacher admitted. Then later in the day while talking with others they backtracked.

My child is not in the same class but has had that teacher help in his class, last year.

When I asked my child about this teacher they only had good things to say. I asked open-ended questions, like, "What does teacher X do?" And everything was like, "Teacher X reads me books!"

What exactly is the situation? Was a kid spanked at home and accused the teacher, did it happen? It sounds like the school handled it well by making a report and an investigation. Is your child with this teacher? Remember these teachers are not trained and very poorly paid in a very difficult job (not to say this is ok).

What does your child say about this teacher? (Assuming they’re old enough to be verbal.)
