There are currently 3 8th graders from Westland taking Honors Algebra 2 at BCC. I don't know if there are any from Silver Creek. The ones I know about took Honors Geometry in 7th grade, and probably Algebra 1 in 6th. This means the point of test-in was in 6th, since this is not the usual track open to students. There was therefore no special registration needed for 8th grade, Westland just informed us that Honors Algebra 2 would be at BCC during the first period of high school (earlier than the first period of middle school), and that there would be a bus driving them back to Westland for second period. If your kid is in a different math track, you need to ask to have them tested by the math coordinator at their middle school.
The bus is only available during the regular school schedule. There are special days and early release schedules where they do not think the bus has time to drive between BCC and Westland and therefore 8th graders are not required to attend their math class, and can schedule test make-ups as needed. But since I live nearby and work from home, I have picked up my kid from BCC and driven her myself to Westland on those days.
Note that since the kids do not spend the rest of their day at BCC, they cannot benefit from the teacher's office hours.
For my kid, it's been a great experience. Only class that doesn't bore her to death...
