Kind of a bummer for the kids that want to wear a shirt from the school they committed to on "decision day." My kid's graduation is in late May.

OP I mean that in the past May 1 has been the day you have to commit to a college. Decision Day. I think this year that date will be June 1 because of the FAFSA mess.
I'm not sure this will trickle up to the very top, but if they're serious about equity, they should.
If public schools can't get FA info out to families, then Dartmouth shouldn't be saying to middle class families, "tell us now even though you don't know what your in-state option would cost."
Schools won't have Pell info out to students. Again, Dartmouth would have CSS info and can give parents basically a guarantee on Pell status, but it won't be official and it will rightfully make people nervous.
Of course, I don't think the very top schools actually do care about equity, so I don't think this will trickle up to the very top very quickly. The top 30 schools will hesitate. But then there will be an article in the NYT giving them a hard time and these schools have enough beds filled with ED recruits that most will decide they can push it back too. It's not worth the bad PR.
There will be plenty of incentives to commit earlier and some scare tactics about housing. There may also be some last minute merit offers in May some families might want to hold out for - for mid-tier colleges. But for most of American, June 1 will be decision day. For 2024 only.

Who do you notify and of what? If you get waitlisted then so what? Don't you just wait and commit to another anyways since it's unlikely?

DCUMs is confused even money talk enters the picture. The FAFSA is delayed and colleges won’t get student info until March or later so they might need to push back the May 1 deadline for students to make their decision.

I agree. The colleges are going to need that time just to get all of the financial statements done. And who knows what further delays will be caused by FAFSA!

that's my prediction. have already heard of a couple schools and I think in the next 10 days, it will be pretty standard.
