I think someone who has to go to NYC once a month would be a dealbreaker for me. I mean, I enjoy NYC but that's a little weird.

If you like to go to New York once a month and want a partner to join with you, then this probably isn't the guy for you. I do think lots of couples have to deal with something on the order of being unable to visit a big city for mental health reasons. Not every issue of that magnitude can be a "dealbreaker, but this one might be for you.

People have things. It’s not a deal breaker but he has to manage it better prospectively. It’s a maturity issue.

It’s not weird he has the phobia, it’s weird he didn’t mention it to you when you suggested this plan.

The phobia isn't an automatic dealbreaker, but the fact that he got all the way there w/o mentioning it probably is.

Unlike earlier years, I’ve become quite jaded about dating recently. I find myself early on looking for the “deal/breaker,” of which recent examples include unemployment, living at home, and a strange foul odor etc. At any rate, the new guy turned out to be quite a pleasant surprise resulting in about 10 dates. Until he didn’t. One thing I love to do is travel to NYC at least monthly and would live there if he could. I asked him to go with me last weekend and we flew into LaGuardia for a day trip. I realized in the cab to midtown that while I was chirping about the things we could see he was sitting away from the window and staring at his feet. When we stopped to exit near the Empire State Building, he refused to get out of the cab. The driver literally had to pull him out of the car in the intersection. Then he had a complete panic attack crying and literally darting into oncoming traffic. I was able to grab him and hustle him into the nearby metro with him blubbering the whole way. He said he had to go home rather than go to the hospital as I insisted at first until he started to calm down. We ended up taking a train home and he explained that he has this bizarre phobia Batophobia that is the fear of tall buildings not bats btw. I like the guy compared to my most recent disasters but would you still agree this is a deal breaker?
