A B in Q1 and a C in Q2 gets you a B for the semester. Many kids slack off in Q2 and Q4 because they know the higher grade will carry them.

MCPS should have pluses and minuses with the letter grades: B+ vs. B- is more informative than just a B

And why does MCPS use an E for failing instead of the widely used F?
No one outside of MCPS understands what an E is.

MCPS is not the only school district that uses an E for failing. Nor is it a new phenomenon.

MCPS central office would never allow it. The old Loss of Credit policy was canned because it was deemed "oppressive" and "racist," and I think that one was triggered with 5 unexcused absences. So there's no way they'd instate something even more unforgiving.

How is requiring kids to be in class racist? I just don’t understand MCPS.

Equity apparently means having no standards for anything - at least that is the MCPS definition

No, that's DCUM right-wingers definition

So in your opinion, why is having attendance requirements not acceptable in MCPS?

Says who?

One of my kids benefitted too. Medical problems resulted in months of missed time and one semester, he missed so much that he failed all of first quarter’s classes. With good grades second quarter, he passed.

You would hate this. If your kid gets a teacher who is wildly inaccurate about taking attendance, you’d be spending tons of time dealing with your kid’s attendance records, as would you kid at the expense of missing class and friend time.

The grading policy is changing again starting tomorrow.

I would love to see letter grades split into pluses and minuses. That is how many districts do it and it makes the transcript more informative

Grade inflation is terrible at MCPS.
A B in Q1 and a C in Q2 gets you a B for the semester. Many kids slack off in Q2 and Q4 because they know the higher grade will carry them.

MCPS should have pluses and minuses with the letter grades: B+ vs. B- is more informative than just a B
