Just FYI, when we lived in Mexico, the camp information often didn't come available until maybe a few weeks before the camp start date. Also, once we paid and it ended up being cancelled.

Not a camp, but I have been enrolling my 2 children in a Guanajuato, Mexico private elementary school for 2 weeks every year for the past 6 years (minus covid).

We enrolled our children in a school (versus a camp) because we wanted them to be able to go back to the same set of "classmates" every year. My children love it, they have good friends that they return to every year, and we actually feel like part of the community. (We are asked to attend PTA meetings whenever we are there.)

The schoolwork pressure is minimal because everyone understands that our children aren't really "students" at the school.

The school has us pay one full month of tuition, which is nominal compared to U.S. tuition and we always leave a nice donation.

I would love to hear others' experiences, especially with respect to being able to return to the same set of friends.

We’re good with fancy and less fancy - just want kids to learn, have fun, and be safe.

I do the same for my native language.

I go to the country for 4 weeks in the summer, I can telework so that makes it easy. My kids are elementary school age, so I don’t feel comfortable sending them overseas without me. We go to Latin America so the kids usually go for two weeks of camp in July all their kids are in winter break and we travel the rest of the time.

Here are some the tips I would give you if you’re interested in doing something similar with your kids.

First find a nice school in the city you want to go to and sign up for their summer camp and then Find a rental next to the school.

Otherthings to consider.
One, in Latin America the kids have summer in December and January they usually only have a small winter break in July. In Europe most kids are off at the end of June through September, I would look for camps in July as most people take their vacation in August. If you do plan to work while the kids are in summer camp, please note that they have a different time zone.

Two, I would recommend only signing up for two weeks of first year to make sure that the kids like the school and you like the city.

Three, make sure you have enough time to set up yourself before camp starts and take some additional leave at the end to travel around.


Another way to have your kids emerge in the language, is to go to the country and stay at a hotel that has a kids club. In Europe most kids speak English also so that might not work as well. However in Latin America most kids are not fluent in English so your kids will be forced to speak Spanish. Go to a hotel in the countryside so that the chances of having tourist is smaller.

I've never had my kids in any but I've been looking for a spring break camps in Madrid (week before easter) and haven't found much for my dates but they do have stuff the week AFTER Easter.

Someone recommended "Fast English" in Madrid.

Anyone have personal experience with any summer camps for 8 and 4.5 year olds in Spain or LatAm? Looking for Spanish speaking summer camps. My kids are both in immersion programs so want to give them the opportunity to continue to practice their Spanish with native speakers while parents can go sightsee. Doesn’t have to be a full day camp. Thanks!
