FCPS parent here. DC decided to pursue an IBCP instead of a IB full diploma and take as many DE courses as possible. Why? Because not all colleges recognize the IB courses for credit. They didn’t want to miss out on guaranteed college credits with DE classes. They will graduate with 18 hours (English, history, and geospatial analysis) and an IB career related certificate in STEM. They’re happy, we’re pleased.

Wanted to get insights on here about IBDP (not Richard Montgomery IB) vs Dual Enrollment. Will colleges (let's say UMD) prefer one over the other? We're at a MoCo HS that is a wall-to-wall IB. My DC (a sophomore) has taken all Honors and 3 AP classes so far and has a 4.7 weighted GPA. The school doesn't have as many AP courses as other MCPS high schools because of its IB status. As she moves on to her Junior year, she can either go the IB diploma route or take a mixture of IB/AP classes and possibly some classes at MC through the dual program. We prefer for her to go in-state at UMD for financial reasons, but would pay OOS if she doesn't get in. Any feedback on whether one would be viewed more rigorous over the other would be great. I initially thought IBDP would be seen more positively but I saw some comments here that UMD likes dual enrollment kids as well. Appreciate any feedback!
