We just paid $700 for drain snaking from two different directions. Things had gotten bad.

We've used those zip tie looking things. Vinegar and baking soda. Obviously it didn't work.

We realized the difference was that previously we had a tub with no drain cover and the force of the draining bathtub was clearing minor clogs. Now we have a fancy drain with a drain cover that only allows a little water at a time and the drain didn't have the force of water needed to clear it. So we're removing the drain cover when the bathtub drains after baths.

I have long hair and I buy these barbed plastic things that are maybe 2 feet long. They have them on Amazon and at target. It’s amazing what it will pull out.

This is what I use. I use it every 6 months and it is gross but it works really well to remove all the hair and better for the old pipes than pouring chemicals down the drain.

The cheap little orange plastic drain cleaners work the best once there’s a hair clog. It is gross though. Still, personally I’d rather do that periodically than deal with something sitting on top all the time.

I have boys with short hair, so take my experience FWIW, but I preemptively pour Green Gobbler down sinks and shower drains every couple months. I’m not sure how well it would work on an already existing large clog, but seems to work well for maintenance. I’ll also do boiling water every so often too.

DD has a ton of very long hair, this is what we use in her bathroom - it catches everything. Then once a month (or so) I run a vinegar + baking soda treatment in her drain

You can snake it yourself? Or pour down one of the more green friendly declogging agents. I’m not sure how green they are.
