I wouldn’t leave my kid that sick home with a sitter because I wouldn’t want to expose the sitter. It sounds like your kid may have the flu, and that’s not something you should go exposing anyone to anyway.

I don’t think I could leave my child at home sick. I know my dh wouldn’t do that. I’d have to make other arrangements. Sell tickets on stub hub and call the restaurant.

That sucks. I'm so sorry.

I'm not sure who the family member is but my biggest hesitation is that we're pretty careful about exposing grandparents to nasty things. A younger family member I'd probably be more okay with if they were comfortable with the risk. (Grandma, I know you'll never say you mind, but I mind if you get seriously ill.)

Can you sell the tickets? Might be able to get half the money back?

It’s possible they will be doing a lot better by tomorrow. But honestly I probably wouldn’t go. I would not enjoy it.

I’d go if family member was still ok with babysitting.

Yep, I'd go. I'd tell the relative to wear a mask and worn the kid the relative will be wearing one while they take care of them.

Would I, probably not but i wouldn't go to an $800 dinner either. I think its pretty crummy to expose a family member but if they are ok with it and know what to do, have a nice time.

As long as the family member is reliable I would go, unless this is an overnight trip.

I would call the restaurant and tell them what happened and see if they can throw you a bone and let you reschedule - they might be able to.

Is dinner pre-paid? If not, I’d eat at home and just do the show if you can. I wouldn’t lose out on expensive tickets for this scenario, assuming your family member is willing to babysit a sick child.

How high is high?

My asthmatic kid, who had an uncanny ability to go from 98.6 to 105.6, I would have stayed home. My other kid, I almost certainly would have gone.

Maybe go to urgent care tomorrow? It would be cheaper than eating the $800 cost!

Oh, that stinks. I would cancel but I wouldn’t judge you if you didn’t. Is the family member someone like your mom or sister?

We were supposed to celebrate a milestone anniversary tomorrow. Spent $800 on non refundable tickets to a dinner and show. 3yo just got a high fever and is coughing non stop. A family member was supposed to babysit. Kid is close to the family member but there’s no one like mom when you’re sick. Would you still go tomorrow or just eat the cost?
