Thanks, all.

That may be specific to the kid/school. I know that at RM sometimes out of area magnet students end up dropping out of the IBDP during 11th grade, but still stay at RM until they graduate.

I think your DCC assignment is your home school. The base is for purposes of making that assignment and how your choices get prioritized.

As far as the MC2 program goes, it’s like other magnets. Your kid can drop the program in 11th but still remain at the school.

OK, that was my understanding, too, that DCC assignment is the home school. But I thought kids dropping the magnet program had to return to the home school and couldn't stay in the magnet school building. (Per the FAQ here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/14B8AdZDZ2PwwQ-Ys93UbBLqNjGrP0Htt_xZilsuBGDE/preview) But maybe it doesn't apply in later grades?

I think if your child leave the program in 9th or 10th they can petition the school to stay. Default is return to home school. 11th and 12th graders I've heard can stay at the school even if they drop out of the program.

You can always return to the home school. Kids can take my classes without being enrolled in the program.

I'm unclear on how reliably MCPS uses the terms "home" and "base" in their literature.

Does anyone know what happens in the flowchart if:
- a Northwood-base kid
- with a 1st-choice Einstein DCC ("home"?) assignment
- accepts an MC2 magnet seat
- then later decides not to complete the full Middle College program?

Do they stay at Northwood or go to Einstein?

My kid is on the fence between the Einstein IB and Northwood APs, but we aren't convinced MC2 is the best fit. (It could be, but the coordinator trying to sell it as "easier than APs" didn't help.) If he decides on MC2 and winds up in 11th or 12th wanting to stay with Northwood's APs instead, is he totally screwed? (i.e., does he get shuffled back to Einstein, split off from his friends and now unprepared for the diploma program?)

I personally have no qualms about either school, but he's having trouble settling into a decision, and we don't understand enough about the MC2 coursework particulars. (Or maybe he won't get offered a seat and there's no choice! But I figure we better be prepared for the quick turnaround.)

TIA!
