This. @6 months ago DH thought it broken and I was excited to return it to Costco and get a newer smaller model. But no, it was user error and fine. Bought in 2013. We used it a lot more in the beginning, but only 2-3x a week now.
It was the best investment - a super powerful multi-function pro-level blender for $400 over 11 years and counting.

I do a smoothie most days on my Kitchenaid mixer, and haven't had any problems. It has a smoothie setting that I use.
I layer like this:
Liquid on bottom- I use milk,
Then add protein powder and/or nut butter and/or whatever additional thing (like flaxseeds or chia seeds)- the ingredients that would otherwise get stuck to the sides,
Then greens,
Then either fresh banana or avocado (for creaminess)
Then frozen fruit on top
I think you actually want the softer things closer to the blade, and the harder frozen things on top to weigh everything down. And the liquid makes it easier for the blender to blend.
