So my daughter is AA and gets her hair done more than me. I pay cash and don’t tip. The person does it in her home.
I get a hair cuttery cut ( no color) and tip 20% in cash directly to stylist.

NP, but an experienced stylist/colorist who also owns their salon (and hence gets a cut of everyone else's earnings) can easily make a lot. I pay like $300-$400 for a cut/color with tip at a nice salon and the owner charges more than my stylist.

If its a cut, 20% but for cut and color/highlights 10%. I used to pay higher but then I realized how much it adds up and then I skip sessions to save money. Also, new stylist is the owner of her own salon so doesn't make sense to try to compensate her for low income.

I get my hair colored and cut. It’s about $200 total. I’ve been tipping $40 —20% of the total. But someone recently told me that she only tips on the amount of the cut, not coloring. Is this standard? I’m going to keep my current practice, but I’m wondering what’s normal for people who get a cut/color.
