I had to go through secondary inspection several times while waiting for my green card to be processed and it was always fascinating.

Taking them away is exaggerated but most low level frontline border control officers would reasonably refer someone purposely flashing multiple different passports (with different entry/exit dates, rules, and visa requirements) to a supervisor for adjudication (which will likely and deservedly result in additional questioning and delays)

Anyone with multiple passports knows that even when you travel with all of them, you have all but the one you’re traveling with stashed away (and depending on the transit countries, you don’t bring extras at all!), you don’t indiscriminately show immigration officials all of them! Think of it like two having license plates from two different states on one car. It is totally suspicious to show passports from more than one country at passport control! The entire point of passport control is to figure out who is where, from where, at what time. Different countries have different arrangements with one another and by declaring what passport you are traveling with, you are operating under the rules- and protections, or lack of- of that agreement.

Also there are plenty of countries that explicitly prohibit holding multiple passports even though plenty of their citizens do so.

These are official documents OP and the stamp means something. It’s not like getting a national park stamp in your fake NPS passport!!!

Half the places you go don’t even stamp one passport now days. They just scan it. Kind of disappointing.

I find fewer questions are asked if I'm not flashing around multiple passports at an immigration counter.

No. You enter with one passport, and must leave with teh same one.

Otherwise how would that work... Hey, I'm trying to enter with this passport which doesnt' allow visa-free entry.. but you should let me in because I have this other passport that does. You need to pick one and use it.

That is a dumb question. The answer is no.

This seems like a silly question. But my kids now have 3 passports (so 3 citizenship) and asked if they traveled with all three, can they ask the immigration people to stamp all 3?
