Absolutely no way I'd be leaving close to college when Bright futures is an option. Wait it out a bit, see where your kids end up.

Yes. We are not moving now in case they want to stay in-state for college. This is more of a next 10 years thought. I will say it really gives me anxiety to think of so many hurricane seasons here. Our house appreciated in value so much now would be a great time to sell and move to a cheaper state, but it's not possible.

I would move. I’ve only ever lived one place where I felt like this - New Orleans - and I’m so glad I left quickly once I realized I didn’t want to live there forever. It felt like a heartbreaking breakup but I didn’t want to raise kids there - if a place feels unsustainable to you, you should really think about whether you want to give your kids a chance to grow roots elsewhere

All anecdotal obviously and proves nothing but I don't have a fear of hurricanes, or alligators, mosquitos or conservatives either. The governor does make me pretty nervous but I would never moved because of a governor from a place I love.


I like Florida generally and don’t have any issue with it that would make me move aside from weather and hurricanes. I am inland and not in a flood zone, but I still hate hurricane tracking and uncertainty as well as long term outlook with climate change. It’s been hard for me to see it as a forever home.

I have lived on the east coast of FL less than 5 miles from the beach for 8 years and the SW coast of FL less than 5 miles from the beach for 3 years. I have not experienced any damage from a hurricane to my home. There were some trees down and debris all around my community during Hurricane Ian but that's it for my experience. I grew up in NoVa and lived through a big tree falling on my house during a hurricane there.

Have lived in FL for 10 years.

Is your house at risk from storm surge or flooding?

If so, then yeah, be concerned and maybe consider moving.

If not, then hurricanes are unlikely to cause serious damage (assuming that your roof is up to current code).

I know 5 couples who have moved out of Florida in the past 5years. Climate wasn’t the primary reason, but on their minds. My point is, while lots of people are moving there, others realize it’s a ticking time bomb s hole and move away.
