I don't live in the area any more and can 100% say that the idea of returning to DC is less and less appealing given what I read here. Even the non-nasty posts validate all my stereotypes about the DC (where I grew up!) as power hungry, status obsessed, rat racy and overly Type A.
You are making the mistake of associating living in a influential location with having influence. It's roughly the same as saying, I live next door to NASA, we all must be rocket scientists. I am oretty sure the people in charge are relatively unaware of DCUM. And if they do read the Political section, they are even less worried.
