Have you considered in home care agency? I would recommend calling Robbie at 301, 300, 2929.

I'm sure they've checked this but also have they checked for a UTI? In the last years of her life after a major stroke, my aunt would get silent UTIs and the biggest symptom was her personality would change -- she would would fly off the handle and swear like a sailor. Especially if he had an indwelling catheter it's something to keep an eye out for.
Who has the healthcare proxy for him and do you know what his wishes are? If he doesn't want to be overtreated, don't let them overtreat him.

People often have a major cognitive decline after any sort of hospitalization. I’m so sorry. Good luck.

If he had a stroke and is still experiencing heart issues I’d be willing to bet he is going to have no recollection of any of this, even if he makes it through. My experience is that the hospital will either have a sitter with him or will just medicate him if he’s being difficult. They absolutely love to use Haldol on their elderly patients.
If you can find a rehab for him that caters to old people that will be your best bet. If he’s somewhat local Heritage Hall in Leesburg is full of old people and they’ve seen it all- not a great facility to look at (not fancy, dated, shared rooms) but the staff is incredible and works miracles for these people.

OP, this is such a hard stage of life for the elderly. With the heavy drinking after the loss of his wife, he might be done.

My 80 year old uncle had a stroke and is not communicating well. He’s also very angry and hostile. They managed to get him into a rehab center but his blood pressure got too high so now he’s back in the icu. Realistically what can we expect for him, anyone been through this? My dad says he doesn’t think he fully understands what is going on. How do you work with a patient who is combative? He’d been drinking heavily recently since the loss of his wife.
